Why Fish Oil?
Our label answers the question!

In 1976, a groundbreaking study asked why Greenlandic Eskimo had such a low incidence of heart disease. The everyday Eskimo diet is rich in fish, a common source of Omega-3 fatty acids. An explosion of research confirmed the role of Omega-3 fats in the prevention of heart disease. Omega-3 fats have been shown to lower triglycerides, lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, prevent fatal heart arrhythmias, and prevent atherosclerosis.

The typical North American diet is lacking in cold-water fish; thus the popularity of dietary fish oil supplements.

Why Arctic Fresh®?

As a Cardiology Practice, our doctors wanted to confidently recommend a fish oil to our patients. Through exhaustive research, we found it difficult to promote any one brand due to the inferior products available on the market.

Arctic Fresh® was born of a desire to provide our patients with the finest quality product to optimize their health. We now sell and ship Arctic Fresh worldwide!

What are Omega 3's?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids – fats the body needs but cannot make. There are three Omega-3 fats: ALA, EPA, & DHA.

ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) is the "parent" Omega-3. It is broken down by enzymes in the body to become EPA (EicosaPentanoic Acid) and DHA (DocosaHexaenoic Acid). These two acids are more easily used by cells in the body. They are converted into compounds that fight inflammation, prevent blood clots, and dilate blood vessels.

Fish obtain ALA from plankton they feed on in the ocean and convert it easily to DHA and EPA. Humans are not very good at breaking down ALA and therefore need dietary supplements of DHA and EPA.

How much do I need?

There are no federal guidelines for Omega-3 intake, but the American Heart Association recommends:

  • Patients with a history of heart disease should consume approximately 1 gram (1000mg) of EPA plus DHA daily
  • Patients with elevated triglycerides should consume 2 to 4 grams of EPA plus DHA daily
  • The recommended dose may not be reached through diet alone – fish oil supplements can be an important key to heart health
  • Two Arctic Fresh® Omega-3 capsules exceed American Heart recommendations for EPA and DHA intake
When does size matter?
When it comes to making fish oil, size really does matter.

Oils from large fish like cod and shark are healthy but require extensive processing and filtering to ensure they are free from harmful contaminants like mercury, dioxin, and PCB's.

Smaller fish like sardines and anchovies have short life cycles. They experience less exposure to pollution and require less processing, which results in a more natural product.

An Atlantic Cod grows up to 6 feet long, and lives up to 25 years

Big fish= more pollutants
Little fish = fewer pollutants
Peruvian Anchovy – Approx. 4 inches long
Pacific Sardine – Approx. 6 inches long

Our fish oil is sourced from the purest wild Sardine, Anchovy, and Mackerel fished in cold, pristine, deep waters off South America where there are few environmental impurities.

Little fish = fewer pollutants
Quality you can count on…

Our fish oil is manufactured under USP (United States Pharmacopeia) standards by the largest private marine research laboratory in North America. It undergoes more than 50 quality checks before it reaches the consumer.

In addition, they have earned certifications of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Frequent third party testing by independent FDA registered laboratories for purity analysis assures that common contaminants such as arsenic, mercury, lead, cadmium, dioxins, and PCB's are non-detectable at the parts per billion (PPB) level.

…Purity you can trust

What are Omega 3
Fatty Acids?

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids; fats the body needs but cannot make.

There are 3 Omega-3 fatty acids: ALA, EPA, and DHA. ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) is the “parent” Omega-3.

More important to human nutrition, however are the two remaining Omega-3's:

  • DHA (DocosaHexAenoic acid)
  • EPA (EicosaPentAnoic acid)

They are more valuable to cells in the body, as well as more easily used.

They are converted to compounds that are anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, antiarrythmic, and vasodilatory. Humans can theoretically convert ALA to DHA and EPA but are not very efficient at doing so.

Fish obtain ALA from the plankton they feed on in the ocean and convert it easily into DHA and EPA.

By eating fish or fish oil, we are sure to be getting Omega-3 fats (fatty acids) that our body can readily use.

Where do the fish come from?

Our supplier harvests anchovies from the coast of Peru. Fishing vessel off the South American CoastThese waters are warm (16-20 degrees Celsius) and plentiful in phytoplankton which is easily converted to the Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA by the fish.

The freshly processed oil is transported to Nova Scotia where it is filtered according to the highest standards.

Oils from large fish like cod and shark are healthy but require extensive processing and filtering to ensure they are free from harmful contaminants like mercury, dioxin, and PCBs.

Smaller fish like sardines and anchovies have short life cycles. They experience less exposure to pollution and require less processing, which results in a more natural product.

Although there are no federal guidelines for Omega-3 requirements, several groups of experts have made recommendations for Omega-3 intake.

Many products on the market do not tell you how many Omega-3 oils you get.

We want you to know what you get from our oil formula. Here are recommendations of amounts from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health.
